Peritoneal Cancer Ribbon

Ratso asked me to find out what color the ribbon for peritoneal cancer is. Of course, everyone knows the pink breast cancer ribbon. The ribbon for ovarian cancer is teal colored. Click this link for a list of the meanings of various colored ribbons. But it doesn't look like there's an official ribbon for peritoneal cancer. This is as close as I could come:

This white with black polka dots and pink boxing gloves was designed for a woman associated with Fighting Cancer, Inc. for her own peritoneal cancer. It was then adopted as the corporate logo for that company.

I'm thinking we should take the pink gloves off and just call white with black polka dots the Peritoneal Cancer ribbon. I wonder how one goes about getting a cancer ribbon color adopted?

How much life changes in one year

It is so hard to believe that just one year ago mom went in to the hospital for what was supposed to be a routine surgery. I talked her to her that morning on my way to work and her way to the hospital. I reminded my boyfriend to say an extra prayer for her that morning. I got to work and taught my students Spanish something. I was trying to be engaging, but kept thinking about mom. After my second block class let out at 11:10, I checked my phone to see if I had messages. I had a text from Katie saying mom was out of surgery. A little while later during my planning block Katie called me right as two of my students came to my room to ask me some questions about a project I had just assigned. She told me the doctors had found cancer. I was sitting in my classroom chair flabbergasted. I felt my face getting hot and I didn't want to flip out in front of my students. Katie told me that dad wanted her to wait until after I left work to tell me so I wouldn't have a tough afternoon, but she knew that I would want to know right then and there. I hung up quickly and just started crying in front of my students. I don't know how I made it through the rest of the day, or the three-hour teacher seminar after school. That day was so gut-wrenching. Every day since then has been gut-wrenching to one degree or another.

Just a few days before mom's Monday operation I was on the phone with her as I was getting ready to go to a friend's wedding. She was trying to sound upbeat and interested about what I was wearing and who would be there etc. But in the middle of talking she burst into tears and said she was just in so much pain. I remember telling her that Monday was just a few days away and wasn't it good that she would be having the operation so her pain would go away. Little did we know that it would only go away after a hellish year of treatments, all to end with her moving on to the next life. I would probably have spit in anyone's face if they'd told me that then.

Life changes so quickly. One second can determine the rest of your life, let alone a day, week, month or year. I am so bitter about cancer and always will be. One thing despite it all that I'm happy about is all the time I got to spend with mom this past year. Thank God for my teaching job and the schedule that allowed me to go to Florida so frequently. We had some bad times and some good times and some fun. We got to talk a lot about what matters most in life.

Don't put off for tomorrow what you can to do today. Tell your family you love them. Call up an old friend. Let go of grudges. Try something you've always want to. Help someone. Smile. Laugh. Live. Because next year you-or they may not be around anymore.

The eco beauty haven of Epi-Center Med Spa was the perfect spot for an intimate evening of high end sustainable fashion by the likes of Linda Loudermilk, Sara Shepherd and Amber Marie Bently. Thursday's event, a fundraiser for the upcoming Discarded to Divine fashion show in May, was hosted by San Francisco-based stylist and fashion instructor Jill Siefert who provided detailed information on each piece and its materials. Most of the designs shown were exclusive to local boutique Eco Citizen, including an eco-collection by Shepherd. Amber Marie Bently's stunning new sustainable couture jewelry line was featured on every model and Bently was in the audience to provide more information on each piece. Both Shepherd and Bently are local designers on the "ones to watch" list - their sophisticated and totally eco-conscious pieces are poised to be recognized on a larger scale. Pure Med Spa - My experience with BriteSmile

Dec 1, 2009 - So after years of complaining about my teeth and hundreds of dollars in over the counter teeth whitening products, I decided to look into some of the new professional products offered through the burgeoning Med spa industry. Now in reality, I am not a "Spa" person. I only recently became aware of these Med Spas through a friend who had laser hair removal done at a Med Spa in Hazleton lanes (Yorkville). She described it as a place for beauty "tune-ups", as they offer Botox, Dysport, Velashape (for cellulite) and all kinds of facials.

After some investigation on pricing and quality of service I decided to take the leap and visit the Hazleton Lanes Pure Med Spa location in Yorkville. My friend had a good experience with the hair removal and Pure Med Spa operates the largest chain of Med Spas in North America so it made sense. Pure Med Spa just introduced a new teeth whitening system to Canada called BriteSmile. The treatment lasts an hour and from the reviews, works amazingly well.

Location Location Location...
The location is tucked away in the upscale Hazleton Lanes shopping mall, known for top end designers and top end prices. I was very surprised to meet the owner (Jeff Nourse) who was visiting the location and overheard my concerns about pricing. I was relieved when told the teeth whitening package was on sale for $249 that day only.
It seems Pure Med Spa is running "today only" sales events at some of their locations where you can save a considerable amount of money.

Pure Med Spa Delivers
Okay, as for the treatment itself, I will just say that it is unobtrusive and not that painful. They use a patented Blue light that works with the chemicals to immediately affect the change in colour. In and out in under an hour and I really noticed a difference right away. In fact, I spent most of the morning grinning like a Cheshire cat so my fellow office workers would catch a glimpse. Normally I have sensitive teeth so I was dreading the reaction my teeth would have to Pure Med Spas treatment. Remarkably I felt no real pain, just some light sensitivity to cold water for the day but fine the next day.


I saw the owner again and he asked for my email address so that he can send some promotional material for 20 Bay, he seemed genuine in his passion for the industry and really went out of his way to make me feel better about being male and visiting a spa. I had a chance to speak with Jeff about how he got into the Med Spa business and some of the hills he had to climb in order to build the company, good story. So from my perspective the BriteSmile treatment works and my experience with a Med Spa was great.
